12" Bison Hide Lífsstafur Drum | Norse Pagan Drum | Nordic Art

12" drum made of bison hide, over a maple frame.  Artwork features Lífsstafur (Lifsstafur - life’s stave / stave of life) found in the 1940 publication “Galdra-skræða Skuggi” by Icelandic scholar  Jochums M Eggertssonar. There is not anything written beyond to the title, however the Icelandic definition of “life” relates more to the state of being alive than that of a way of life or living. It can also mean one’s body, even body and soul, thus it could be regarded as a symbol to keep you alive and healthy. The symbol is strengthened by the use of Æglishjalmir on the left and right sides.
