12" elk hide drum, with hand painted dotwork art featuring a yellow elk and black, white and red stars. Beater is poplar wood with a buckskin head.
"The last eastern elk was shot in Pennsylvania on September 1, 1877. The subspecies was declared extinct by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service in 1880." Elk reintroduction began in 2001-2002, as of 2021 populations numbered between 13,000 and 14,000 in the East with a herd of around 200 in North Carolina which started as just 52. This 12" handmade Elk skin drum features the iconic Elk, and 6 stars for Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
