Premium quality vegetable tanned dark brown soft, warm, natural reindeer hides, raised by Sámi reindeer herders in Finland, personally imported under appropriate US Fish and Wildlife permit regulations. These hides come from reindeer that were entirely consumed and were not killed for their hides alone.
Dark hides are softer than and shed less than light ones.
Suitable for use in crafting or as a beautiful addition to your home as is - these are top quality thick fluffy hides. Creases in hair made during shipping will naturally disappear shortly after being unpacked. We personally use these while camping due to their amazing warmth. They are perfectly suited for outdoor use as a layer between you and a cold bench/floor.
Average size is about 48"x36" (4ft by 3ft).
In the year 98, Roman historian Tacitus writes about "strange people in Thule (Latin for the far north) who wear fur clothes, hunt reindeer and travel with skis". These people carry on their traditional lifestyle today, passing down knowledge from generation to generation as they have done for thousands of years. A reindeer herder develops a close relationship with their herd. Reindeer herding remains the exclusive domain of indigenous Sámi people in Finland.
Synthetic materials take thousands of years to break down, harming the Earth and environment. Using natural materials allows the environment to reclaim its resources in the circle of life. This hide honors an ancient way of life where animals and humans work closely with one another.
Keep in mind this is a natural product and colors can vary as much as wild animals can vary, especially on screens. I am happy to ship internationally and will describe the item as a "throw rug" on customs forms. There are no restrictions on importing them in any country as far as I am aware, but if the package is opened by customs you may be asked what type of animal it is (Rangifer tarandus).
I ship with insurance both domestically and internationally for peace of mind.
